DFCs, Dirty Strangers, Night of Treason, Dirty Love
Kings Head, Acton
6th November 2010
The DFCs played their best gig so far at the King Head on Saturday night. Starting off with a crunching version of Underage Demon they played a super slick and confident set. New songs Repercussions and NY Bitches winning over the heavies in the crowd and Marta screaming and stomping around the stage. The DFCs mashed through a version Girls Against Boy's Let me Come back and their own Speedtrap and then they were gone. 25 minutes of adrenalin fuse!
Dirty Strangers wandered in from the cold and played some Canvey style soul and blues (always welcome!). " Shepherds Bush City Limits" closing their set!
Night of Treason played some rock hard punk standards and originals, Bill largeing it up with his Pistol-tone guitar!
Dirty Love features Lizzi Love on Vox our very own version of Beth Ditto - except she's meaner and obscener! A true star! Dirty love blasted their way through their set , a celebration of rude grooves and punky times. Hecklers beware!
Monocle Rosa, The Don't Fucking Cares
93 Feet East
24th July 2009
This is a great venue but it's surprisingly empty on a Hot Wednesday night - I can't help thinking the promoter could have tried a little harder. Maybe half the admission or cheaper bar prices, because this could be a great scene - and change the DJ - they were playing salsa ! between bands!
The Don't Fucking Cares are their usual indifferent, arrogant selves to night, stepping on stage with studied nonchalance. They kick off with The Rest is Just Noise, a slamming riff - reminiscent of Mudhoney with maybe an hint of Arctic Monkeys. Then straight into new single Underage Demon a bluesy yet mechanistic beat. Imagine Iggy doing krautrock and you're in the right area. Download a tale of sordid behavior Lou Reed could be proud of, starts with a chord change that reminds me of the Beach boys - if they were on heroin. They end the set with a climatic version on Speedtrap, no covers tonight.
Monocle Rose have problems - Richie breaks two strings in the first song and has to use an unwieldy spare guitar. Its not until Alley cat that the band hits its stride - a lean manic 's style riff & boogie. The promised crowds don't emerge but an anthemic Tired of London lifts everyone. The song has a cinematic feel with strong Suede style power chords. Feedback problems persist and after six songs the band call it quits, if this bunch of youngsters can keep their nerve they'll make it.

27. I Got A Right - Iggy Pop & The Stooges

1. Andy Warhol's Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
The most subversive album ever made - dirty weird sounds and linear beats, up from the sleazy back street world of New York's avant garde - packed with new ideas, art trash experiments and feedback. This album invented the concept of underground rock! like finding a bag of smack in the back of a taxi.
2. Raw Power - Iggy Pop & The Stooges
Rude, crude and dangerous to know the Stooges most aggressive album. Needle sharp guitar riffs and Iggy's best ever street loser lyrics - Search & Destroy, Penetration, Raw power and James Williamson's demented guitaring!
3. Never Mind The Bollocks - The Sex Pistols
The anthems that rebuilt the UK, snarling vicious barbs of lyrics and breeze block wall of rhythm guitar. Blood snot and anarchy - the real thing!
4. The Clash - The Clash.
Broken glass guitars and amphetamine burns - the sound of lonely alienation under the Westway. Anti-apathy, anti-boredom message that turns all that aggression into something positive. White Riot, London's Burning and Garageland - classics all.
5. In Utero - Nirvana
Twisted sulking soul-fired anger and dreamy heroin fueled daydreams, there is no finer example of alienated youth ever recorded. Slabs of bass, great drums and the best vocal howl of all time.
6. Marquee Moon - Television
Crystal shards of guitar, New York latenight underground cool, poetry and ice cold solos. Razorlight nicked their stuff from here, even Tom Verlaine's strangled vocal sound.
7. 1st - The Gun Club;
Jeffery Lee Pierce's visionary epics, burning guitars, violent delta blues & voodoo malice - the razors edge! They got there before the White Stripes.
8. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan;
60s suburban amphetamine blues. The multi layered word miester, intellectual, articulate rapping before its time. Black shades N/Y cool, Like a Rolling Stone defines the era.
9. Venus Luxure No 1 Baby - Girls Vs Boys;
Sordid nasty dirty funk - the Stooges taking downers in a disco! In like Flynn and Bulletproof Cupid are all edged with filth.
10. Vol.4 - Black Sabbath;
Riffzilla from the dark lords, D tuned monsters of songs- Supernaught, Snowblind and Wheels of Confusion represent an avalanche of riff, proggy but fun.

Finally got round to the shit... I'm most definitely the most coolest member of the band, although I'm sure my albums are the most uncoolest of everybody. I've based my selection on honesty and actually listening to these albums quite a fucking lot.
These are in no particular order apart from the one they are in:
1. The Wildearts, Earth Vs...
This was my band of choice back in the day... There have been better bands I'm sure, but this was the scene in my formative years and they kicked the shit out of most of the big bands at the time. This album still sounds killer.
2. Alice Cooper, Love it to death...
The coop is the fucking man. Had a fascination with him all my life.This album blends Detroit with California...... Like that fucking works!!!!!!!!!
3. Guns and Roses, Appetite For Destruction...
1987...and this album is still the most rock and roll sounding album ever made. Great songs played like they meant it....Shame they are a bunch of cunts!
4. Sepultura, chaos A.D...
This band were fucking Superb!!! The nearest metalheads got to dancing and they didn't even know it.I think they had alot to do with metalers getting into dance music. Great beats and rhythms proper punk!!!
5. Nirvana, Nevermind...
Everyone is still feeling the ripples from this album... It was like an earthquake, it changed everything.
6. AC/DC, Back in black....
love it or hate it????? it's the blueprint for any self respecting rock. "Givin the dog a bone", fucking classic
7. Black sabbath, Paranoid...
I could put every single album of the sabbs in this list... My favourite because it was the first one of theirs i bought!!!!! Its that deep.
8. Led Zep, IV...
This album is just killer. Anyone that don't dig, it is either dead or a vegetarian.
9. Bad Company, Bad company...
Rogers is a god!!! If everybody in the world could sing like him, we would have no wars, religion or poverty....just Harmony...and seagulls
10. Rage against the machine, Rage against the machine...
This album came totally out of left field at the time...but shit...this was the alternative, again brought all the people together,
Thats my 10, my new friends will say " were are the clash, pistols and ramones?", my old friends will say " Were is DIO, PRIEST, MAIDEN", and my mum will say "Were is Buddy and Elvis", fuck you all this is my list you cunts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
